Violin mom you'd love listening to the workshop by Pudewa, who himself is a Suzuki method teacher and references it in his workshop. He actually spent several years in Japan studying under Mr. Suzuki!

Great post! I am a strong believer in family read alouds. We read the entire Narnia series as a family when my kids were 3 and 6 (after building up to this by reading many shorter and simpler books). By the time we read Narnia, both children could understand everything I was reading, even the 3 year old. I could tell this because of the comments the children made during the reading. I credit family read aloud time with this ability. I think family read alouds have developed a sense in our kids of the correct use of language, and the ability to comprehend larger, more complex, sentences. Please look at the sidebar of my blog to see all the family read aloud books we have gone through over the past 4 years. They are listed in reverse order, from most recent back to the beginning. I enjoy your posts.
