I like the "premeditated parenting" and your list of influence. I remember as a teenager, the biggest reason I had lots of problems with my parents was because I was trying to find out who I was, and I was trying to find an identity for myself apart from my parents' identity. It would have been helpful if my parents had recognized my need to discover who I was and helped me through that confusing process. Spending time with your child and helping them cultivate their minds and relationships with you from an early age is certainly very very helpful in this regard!

Another wonderful post, Lois. I echo your determination in refusing to believe the "norm" for teenagers has to happen in our family. And I wholeheartedly agree, it requires EFFORT and PRAYER. We will always be an influence in our children's lives...it's just a matter of what kind of influence we want to be.
Blessings, Petrie

Thanks for sharing that, Lois. Now I can think about that more before I am anywhere close to being a mom, and I hope I can apply these things. I hope I can see how this goes with your kids, too. :)
